Jail & Bail - Granite Wellness Centers

NOW thru March 31, 2021

About Jail & Bail

One of Granite Wellness Centers’ favorite events, Jail & Bail brings together community leaders and ordinary citizens for a common cause… helping individuals and families heal from substance use disorders to rebuild their lives. Once a volunteer “bailee” signs up to participate, he/she gets placed in Granite Wellness’ virtual jail and starts collecting donations to make bail. Some bailees will serve time in a mock jail that doubles as KNCO Radio Station on March 16, 2021 or KAHI Radio Station on March 24, 2021. They will be arraigned before a volunteer Judge (KNCO announcer Tom Fitzimmons or KAHI show host Casey Freelove) on trumped-up, outlandish charges like “wanton volunteerism.” They spend time in the “slammer” (KNCO or KAHI), where they raise bail in the form of donations to Granite Wellness Centers.

Do you want to help bail out a friend or loved one?

View the Wanted Poster of your favorite bailee and the trumped-up, outlandish charges that landed them in jail. To help bail them out, just click on their Wanted Poster. You can also write a check made payable to GWC Foundation and mail to Granite Wellness Centers, P.O. Box 6028, Auburn, CA 95604. Be sure to put the name of the “bailee” on your check.

How do I volunteer as a “bailee”?

To participate as a volunteer “bailee” in our 2021 Jail & Bail Fundraiser, please contact Renee Berg at Granite Wellness Centers (see below). Once you are signed up, we will send you a “Help Get Me Out of Jail” request letter that you can send/share via email, postal mail or social media to all of your contacts—friends, family, company sponsors and colleagues. We also ask that you email us a picture of yourself (jpeg headshot) and charges for your Wanted Poster and we’ll get you all locked up!

What is the timeline of the event?

Jail & Bail runs from now through March 31, 2021. Volunteer “Bailees” in Nevada County can serve time in a mock jail that doubles as KNCO Radio Station on March 16th from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. and volunteer bailees in Placer County can serve time in a mock jail that doubles as KAHI Radio Station on March 24th from 4:00 – 5:45 p.m. If you are interested in participating in the “on air” portion of this fundraiser either in person or via the phone, please contact Renee Berg (see below).

What is the process for collecting donations?

If your donor wants to bail you out by credit card, direct them to https://www.granitewellness.org/bailees/, where they can easily “Post Bail” for you by clicking on your Wanted Poster. Make sure that your name is indicated as the bailee.

If your donor prefers to pay by check, have them write it made payable to GWC Foundation and mail to Granite Wellness Centers, P.O. Box 6028, Auburn, CA 95604 by Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Make sure that they put your name as “bailee” on their check.

How much money should I ask for?

Each volunteer “bailee” can set his/her own target amount. Most people set their goals between $500 and $1,500 dollars, usually in amounts of $25, $50 or $100 from each donor. Granite Wellness Centers’ goal is to raise over $20,000 to support much-needed services to help individuals and families recover from substance use disorders.
